Also known as Hopi Ear Candling

The use of ear candles has a rich and ancient history in many diverse cultures. In one form or another it was practised by the Aztecs, Greeks, Romans and Egyptians as well as across Europe. The Native American Hopi Indian tribe in Arizona used rolled waxed leaves infused with various herbs and it is from them that the term Hopi Ear candles originates.

Practitioners of Thermo-Auricular Therapy use modern Hopi ear candles produced by Biosun. They are hand-made using a traditional recipe and contain pure beeswax, honey extract, sage, St John's wort and camomile. All Biosun candles conform to EU regulation 93/42/EEC.

During a treatment, the client lies on one side and the candle is lit and inserted in the uppermost ear. The burning candle, which is a hollow tube, produces a light suction which generates a massage-like effect on the eardrum. This helps to loosen impacted ear wax on the eardrum which may have affected hearing. With a series of treatments, the wax will make its own way out of the ear without the intervention of earbuds or tweezers. The vibrations across the eardrum also help to reduce excess pressure within the inner ear. Both ears are treated within one treatment session. The treatment culminates in a light facial massage to help drain the sinuses and to promote relaxation.
